Shelter Advocate - Permanent Part-time

Part Time

To attend to the needs of shelter residents, assist in shelter upkeep, clean offices, provide crisis intervention, and document all client services and complete reports. Ensure the residents are safe and secure during your shift.

Duties:

1. Provide crisis intervention as needed.

2. Attend to the needs of residents during the shift. To interact with residents in a caring compassionate manner while maintaining boundaries.

3. To be a team with other shelter managers in exploring and enforcing shelter safety measures.

4. Performs nightly cleaning and maintenance of offices and shelter facilities, including but not limited to vacuuming, trash removal, bathroom sanitation, minor maintenance and repairs, restocking supplies, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning the kitchen area, completing laundry, sanitizing shelter rooms, making beds, and maintaining the playground area.

5. Conduct temporary client intakes, referrals and client support services.

6. Assist in clerical, filing, organization, and supportive services.

7. Attend staff meeting weekly Tuesdays at 3:00 pm and partake in professional development training as requested (20 hours per year).

8. Conduct Security Checks hourly.

9. Document in the daily log, complete case notes, crisis notes and safety notes among other documentation needed.

10. All other duties as assigned.

 

1. Reliable, responsible, good communication skills, maturity, and good listening skills.

2. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

3. Willingness to become familiar with issues of domestic violence.

4. Ability to work holidays.

5. Must be at least 21 years of age.

6. Must pass background check.

7. High school diploma or G.E.D. required

Graveyard Shelter Advocate – Permanent Part-Time Position

Tuesday and Wednesday – 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Possibility of more hours when coverage is needed.

One hour of sick time accrued for every 20 hours worked.

Training: Completion of 24 hours of core advocacy training Live zoom, 16.25 hours of OVC VAT training online modules, 6 hours of trauma training and 32-40 hours on hands training provided by EI Refugio.
